What a wonderful, fun outing we had to Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve! We saw so many animals in their natural habitat including MANY monitor lizards in various locations, skink, various crabs, mud skippers, spiders, fish, butterflies, an egret and a heron. Thanks to Beatriz, Nicole and Ayako for joining us and helping to spot many of the animals.
We had a great visit to the zoo today! The children discovered many interesting things that happen behind the scenes at Singapore zoo! And we loved seeing some of the animals afterwards. The visit to ACRES on Wednesday turned out to be a very informative and worthwhile experience for the students and teachers. We watched a video about the work that the people at ACRES do and learned about all the animals that they rescue in Singapore. They mentioned their campaign to free the dolphins in captivity in Singapore, due to the fact that they were taken from the wild and are being kept in very small enclosures. As a result 3 of the dolphins have died! We learned about the animals that are illegally brought into Singapore, kept under poor conditions and then sometimes abandoned. ACRES often rescues these animals, nurtures them and tries to return them to their natural habitat. The workers are often called to help an animal that has been hurt or stuck or just lost. They try to find homes for stray dogs and cats. They demonstrated how they carefully and safely capture snakes that have turned up in places that they are not welcome and are returned to the wild. We were then able to walk around the quarantine area and see the turtles, tortoises and iguanas. Our thanks to the people at ACRES for a valuable visit! October 4th was a day full of excitement and surprises. It was wonderful to see the children dressed in national costumes or colours and see them confidently go on stage and introduce themselves. Our class visited Malaysia, USA, Philippines and either Australia or Netherlands. The children took part in a number of different activities such as batik painting, Aboriginal dot painting, colouring, basketball and many more. The children have finished their batik painting in class and are bringing it home today. Pictures from the Malaysian room can be seen on the 'Facebook' page of the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore "Malaysian Classroom at ISS International School's UN Day" The shared international lunch was superb with so many different tastes to experience. Many thanks to all of you for contributing to such a wonderful day! |
