The visit to ACRES on Wednesday turned out to be a very informative and worthwhile experience for the students and teachers. We watched a video about the work that the people at ACRES do and learned about all the animals that they rescue in Singapore. They mentioned their campaign to free the dolphins in captivity in Singapore, due to the fact that they were taken from the wild and are being kept in very small enclosures. As a result 3 of the dolphins have died! We learned about the animals that are illegally brought into Singapore, kept under poor conditions and then sometimes abandoned. ACRES often rescues these animals, nurtures them and tries to return them to their natural habitat. The workers are often called to help an animal that has been hurt or stuck or just lost. They try to find homes for stray dogs and cats. They demonstrated how they carefully and safely capture snakes that have turned up in places that they are not welcome and are returned to the wild. We were then able to walk around the quarantine area and see the turtles, tortoises and iguanas. Our thanks to the people at ACRES for a valuable visit!
