Dear Parents,
The students have done a fantastic job settling into their new class, and are enjoying getting to know their new classmates. We have a couple of students still to join the class, but I have attached the parent contact information, so you can begin setting up some play dates. I will update it once I have the remaining information. If you have a preference as to which parent is contacted in relation to play dates or class information in general, please let me know. Otherwise, I will send class correspondence to the e-mail addresses you provided on the form. Please continue to send the communication book every day and pass urgent information by this method as email is not foolproof. Email is great for non-urgent information though.
This week we are starting our home reading program. Everyday your child will come home with a book to share with you. It may take a few weeks to decide on the correct reading level for your child so please bear with me. However your feedback is very welcome.
As you read with your child, please encourage him/her to make predictions and comparisons where appropriate. This will help your child with comprehension, as well as decoding. Afterwards, spend a few minutes discussing the story together. You may want to each share your favorite part of the story, your favorite character, or perhaps create a different ending. This is a special time for you and your child to enjoy books together. A diary will also be provided for your child to record and comment on the books he or she reads. Please return both the book and the diary the following day, so I can read any feedback and send a new book home. You may add in a story that you have read together at the weekend. During the year your child will receive stickers when they reach milestones such as 25 nights of reading and will receive an award in class for 50 and 100 nights.
