On Tuesday a'stranger' (Ms Hazel's friend Mandy), came to visit our class when the teachers were (conveniently) out of the room. After she introduced herself, but did not say she was a friend or a teacher, she asked if the children would like to go with her to see the puppies in her car - parked outside the school! Almost all the children followed her and were prepared to go out the school gate.
We later talked about why they thought it was safe to go with her and the responses were:
"She told us her name." " She was nice". "We wanted to see the puppies"
Of course our students feel safe in school, which is how it should be, but we wanted them to recognize that a stranger is someone you have never met and even if they introduce themselves they are still a 'stranger'. Hopefully a lesson well learned!
